Dogs Available for Adoption
VOLUNTEER KENNEL CLEANERS NEEDED
We are looking for dependable and caring adults who don’t mind hard work with lots of licks as a reward. Early
morning kennel cleaners are very important to ensure the health and comfort of our dogs. The tasks start at 8 a.m. and include
giving the dogs their morning walk, and washing & drying of kennel floors, walls & drains. It also means helping the staff
change the bedding and water, and washing food dishes. All we require is that volunteers be at least 16 years old to work with the
animals directly.
Please call 413-447-7878 for an application or come to the shelter at 214 Barker Road in Pittsfield, during our
hours of operation: Tuesday – Sat 10am - 4pm, Sunday 1-4pm and Thursday evenings 5-8pm. Or download and print a copy of the
Volunteer Application.

MAKE THE PERFECT MATCH! To help you find the canine companion who's just right for your lifestyle, the Berkshire Humane Society uses the Meet Your Match system. Each dog is evaluated and then "color-coded": PURPLE for easy,
ORANGE for average, or GREEN for a high-maintenance dog. (Click here to find out more.)
TWISTER

Age: 1 Year
Breed: Brittany Spaniel
Sex: Female
Size: 50 Pounds
About me: My name is Twister and the word fits me to a T! The staff says I am a whirlwind of
activity. I was found as a stray, and I am curious, fearless and full of energy. I do tend to jump up on people because I am so enthusiastic, so I will need to learn self-control and better manners when meeting and
socializing with people. I will chase anything that
moves, but am only interested in retrieving tennis balls. I am easily distracted by things in my environment, so patience and
repetition will be the key to my training. I do pull hard on the leash,
my new Easy Walk body harness has helped immensely. Since my breed is known for high energy throughout adulthood, couch
potatoes need not apply!
TASHA

Age: 10 Years
Breed: Lab Greyhound Mix
Sex: Female
Size: 50 Pounds
About me:
TUCKER

Age: 1 - 1/2 Years
Breed: Spaniel Terrier Mix
Sex: Male
Size: 40 Pounds
About me:
QUINN

Age: 5 Years
Breed: Staffordshire Terrier Mix
Sex: Female
Size: 45 Pounds
About me: I was adopted from BHS as a puppy but
recently returned because my owner developed health problems and could no longer care for me
properly. I am housetrained, but I have always had access to the outdoors with a fenced yard and doggy door. I will confess that lately, I started to climb over the
the four-foot fence, so I will definitely need closer supervision. I have never been with any children or men, and sometimes I show
fear toward them, and I'd do best in a home without cats. I have never been with another dog, so the staff would make decisions about placing me in a home with dogs on a case-by-case basis. I am sweet and
sensitive but also playful and loveable when I get comfortable with a new
situation. I love to shred soft fleece toys and I get excited and
bark when I see squirrels, rabbits and birds. A quiet home, without the
hustle and bustle of many visitors, would be ideal for my personality. I have lived in the country and certain noises can scare me, so city life may be
overwhelming. If I could be the girl for you, come down and meet... The Mighty Quinn!
BUDDY

Age: 10 Years
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Sex: Male
Size: 65 Pounds
About me: Although I love my friends at BHS, I am very sad that I was returned to the shelter again. I was adopted about a year ago, but my new owner moved to no pet housing. I'm looking for a quiet household without other dogs, cats or small children. I'd love nothing more than to spend my golden years lounging on the couch with my stuffed duck. Are you a senior who is as young at heart as I am? Then you could adopt me at a discount through the "Seniors for Seniors" program, and we could be the perfect pair!
ROCKY

Age: 1 Year
Breed: Rottweiler, Boxer, Australian Shepherd Mix
Sex: Male
Size: 70 Pounds
About me: I was surrendered because my owner realized that he could no longer give me the fun and active life that I deserve. I have spent most of my life in the same house so I didn’t get a chance to meet many new people and things, so I'll need some help with socialization. Although I’m very sweet, I can be sensitive to new experiences and will need a patient owner with the time to encourage me to explore and teach me how to play. I have been crate-trained and do well with my housetraining; however I will need to be let out at various times throughout the day, so I'm looking for an owner who isn't gone for long stretches.
Come down and meet me — this Rocky is a knock-out!
SPORTY

Age: 8 Months
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Sex: Male
Size: 70 Pounds
About me: I came to the shelter because my elderly owner couldn’t handle my exuberant, larger-than-life personality. Since I am an athletic, bold and curious fellow, I need a high-energy, confident owner who enjoys activities like long hikes or agility training.
I am crate-trained, which will be a great help in perfecting my house-breaking in my new home. If you're an outdoorsy type looking for a companion on the trails of life, I could be the dog for you!
JED

Age: 5 Years
Breed: Coonhound
Sex: Male
Size: 70 Pounds
About me: I just don't know which way is up these days! I came to the shelter as a stray, and although I was adopted twice, I was returned both times. Because, you see, although the staff thinks I'm a wonderful dog, they admit I am a bit of a slow learner. I have never been an indoor dog, so it will take me a while to adapt to life in a new home. I know I have some bad habits, like "counter-surfing" and getting into the garbage, and I need help with house-breaking, but with the proper training I'm sure I can learn! I'm looking for an experienced owner who understands the (sometimes stubborn) hound temperament and is willing to devote the time I need, and I promise to reward them with loads of love. I can imagine a wonderful life of loafing on the porch for long, lazy days or cuddling on the couch. If you know that there "ain't nothin' like a hound dog," I could be the boy for you!
CHARLIE

Age: 2 Years
Breed: Pitbull Mix
Sex: Male
Size: 50 Pounds
About me: The staff says I'm everything a pitbull should be: friendly, high-energy, and very loving. I was adopted a few months ago, but returned to the shelter because my new owners decided they didn't have time for me after all. But I'm a terrific guy and a great pet. I'm house-trained, good with kids, and I love my "people" so much I follow them around like a shadow. I'm happy to sleep in a crate at night and I know some basic commands. And I just love to play, especially with hard toys like balls, frisbees and kongs. Please note that I don't belong in a home with cats, and because I'm an athletic fellow I'll need lots of regular exercise.
